ABRI CATALOG présente ABRI30: SNOOZE de Peow Beow disponible le vendredi 25 juin !

Ce projet se présente sous la forme d’un EP de 5 tracks accompagné d’un court métrage.

Écrit et composé sur son téléphone dans la gare RER où Peow Beow travaille tôt le matin, SNOOZE repose sur l’écriture automatique et le sound design (field recording, sampling). Peow Beow pratique ces techniques sur son smartphone dans un état de manque de sommeil, sur le quai de la gare Saint-Michel Notre Dame à Paris ou à bord du bus de nuit N16.

Véritable format hybride, Peow Beow a volontairement brouillé les frontières propres aux processus créatifs de ces deux médiums de à manière à ce que :
On puisse considérer le court-métrage comme un clip accompagnant l’EP
Comme on peut considérer SNOOZE comme la bande originale du court-métage.


Inspiré par des courants musicaux tels que la musique de film, le abstract hip-hop, le cloud rap ou le post-dubstep, SNOOZE est un EP concept brumeux qui vous invite à explorer votre subconscient à travers différents stades de sommeil.
Les 5 tracks prennent la forme de longues compositions déstructurées, alliant aussi bien des collages sonores, des nappes ambiantes que des rythmiques trap réassemblées. Délibérément lo-fi et avant-gardiste, SNOOZE est une proposition foncièrement singulière, autant pour les standards du hip-hop que pour les standards de la musique expérimentale.

La structure de SNOOZE est basée sur le cycle du sommeil surnommé parfois le train du sommeil. La temporalité de SNOOZE s’étends sur trois actes:

1/ S’endormir
2/ Rêver
3/ Se réveiller

Une invitation à plonger en soi-même, à sonder ses rêves tout comme à explorer une seconde couche de perception, induite par l’absence de repos.

Les passages vocaux de SNOOZE sont nés de la rencontre et de l’amitié entre Peow Beow et l'artiste Docteur Nounour. Docteur Nounour est une chanteuse, peintre, illustratrice et mannequin habitant à Paris. Toutes les prises vocales de Docteur Nounour sur SNOOZE sont issues d’une unique session d’improvisation vocale enregistrée ‘one-shot’ dans la cour du Totoro, un squat basé à Ivry sur Seine en banlieue parisienne. Le point de départ des improvisations de Docteur Nounour étaient des vidéos Youtube de développement personnel sélectionnées par Peow Beow. Volontairement superficielles, ces vidéos traitent de la médiation, de la paralysie du sommeil et de la motivation. Docteur Nounour transcende ces poncifs pour proposer une poésie absurde faisant reprendre tout son sens à ces concepts.

Négliger sa santé mentale et toujours continuer à scroller, continuer tant qu’on peut … Le premier train passe en gare de Saint-Michel Notre Dame à 05h25 et le frigo de Peow Beow ne se remplira pas tout seul.

ABRI CATALOG presents ABRI30: SNOOZE by PEOW BEOW, the EP will be available on june 25th.
Snooze is a five-track EP that comes with a short film.

Snooze was written and composed on a mobile phone in the train station where PEOW BEOW works every day at 5am. The project relies on Ecriture Automatique (Automatic Writing, a process of writing that strays away from consciousness and the conscious process of writing), electronic music composition, field recording and sampling. PEOW BEOW practices all these techniques on his smartphone, while being sleep-deprived on the deck of the Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame train station in Paris or in the night bus N16 he takes every morning to go to work.

Snooze is a true hybrid format. PEOW BEOW willingly blurred the frontiers between the creative processes of music and visual arts. The outcome being

Inspired by genres such as film score, abstract hip-hop, cloud rap or post-dubstep, SNOOZE is a hazy concept EP that invites the listener to explore his own subconscious through different phases of sleep. The five tracks are long unstructured and reassembled compositions blending sound collages, ambient textures and soundscapes as well as trap rhythmic elements. Purposefully lofi and avant-garde, Snooze is fundamentally out there, both in the experimental music and in the hip-hop paradigms.

Snooze’s structure is based on the different phases of sleep:
falling asleep
dreaming
waking up



The EP is an invitation to dive into yourself, to fathom your dreams as you are exploring a second layer of reality induced by the lack of sleep.


Snooze’s vocal parts came from the encounter and the friendship between PEOW BEOW and Docteur Nounour. Docteur Nounour is a french artist, singer, painter and model based in Paris. All the vocal parts by Docteur Nounour were recorded during a single improvisation session in the yard of the TOTORO, a squatted building in Ivry-sur-Seine - near Paris - where Docteur Nounour lives. The starting point of these improvisation sessions were
Youtube videos about personal development selected by PEOW BEOW. These videos were purposefully superficial and focused on meditation and sleep paralysis. Docteur Nounour transcended those clichés through her absurd poetry and gave back their meaning to those concepts.

Peow Beow has been neglecting his mental health, and he will continue as long as he can. The first train stops in Saint-Michel-Notre-Dame at 05:25 am and PEOW BEOW’s fridge won’t fill itself ....
