C’est à cette formule que notre spécimen du jour cherche à répondre.

Cloîtré dans son laboratoire, Combinoid travaille sur de nombreux supports.
Producteur hyperactif, il travaille autant avec la précision de la synthèse numérique et modulaire qu’avec le chaos organisé des magnétophones à bandes. Ces matières sonores sont étudiées et éprouvées pour en faire ressortir chaque spécificité et aspérité.

Son nouvel album s’intitule DREAM CHART :

Dans ce projet qui a mûri au long cours (commencé en 2018) Dream Chart réunit des pistes introspectives baignant dans les souvenirs de rave à la Boards of Canada et dans des nappes immersives et cinématographiques. Une nostalgie profonde et kaléidoscopique.

Inspiré par l’univers psychédélique, loufoque et defragmenté du jeu video LSD Dream Simulator et de l’interface du logiciel 3D Blender, Combinoid cherche à renouer avec l’inquiétante étrangeté des prémices du numérique. L’esthétique rétro-gaming et low poly propre à la PlayStation 1 est une référence particulièrement importante pour le producteur.

Une musique mouvante comme habitée par les rêves et les délires de synthétiseurs doués de conscience. Des arpégiateurs et des rythmiques déstructurées naissent des géométries absurdes, qui nous paraissent pourtant familières.

Combinoid s’est à la fois plongé dans son univers propre tout en s’ouvrant à des découvertes des scènes contemporaines de Londres, Bristol ou Manchester. En France, le style de Combinoid peut faire penser à l’élasticité de Loto Retina.

Entre trip-hop, idm, glitch et deconstructed club music, la musique de Combinoid peut plaire a des auditeurs de Boards of Canada, Four Tet, Aya, Autechre, Space Afrika, Burial ou encore Arca.

Adepte de sound design puissant et de synthèse intensive, Combinoid s’est également frotté à la production de rap noise et tranchante dans le groupe Armaguedon en 2014 (avec Dzespoirs et Ryuk Phis). En beatmaker de génie, il a proposé des beats baveux entre grime et trip-hop offrant au groupe sa touche punk et élastique.
Sur scène et en studio, Combinoid a travaillé en tant que compositeur et sound designer pour le collectif d’arts numérique Might Digital.

Combinoid is a producer - a mad scientist rather - working with several materials: digital synthesis, analog tapes or even modular synths… The producer masters a wide spectrum of sound.

His latest album is called Dream Chart.

Combinoid shares with us introspective paths full of cinematographic textures bringing back the sense of mellow rave that we can find with Boards of Canada.
A deep nostalgia we could get lost in, such as looking in a kaleidoscope for too long.

Inspired by the psychedelic universe of the PlayStation game LSD Dream Simulator or even the clinic interface of the 3D software Blender, the producer wants to bring back the eerie feeling of the beginning of the digital world.
A universe evolving in a retro-gaming low poly aesthetic.

A spaceship welcoming the listener to an introspective journey.
A music that feels like a landscape changing as we walk through it.
A spaceship coming straight out of a Lovecraft’s book, that science fiction author keen on non-sense geometry that the human mind cannot even comprehend.

Written over a four-year span, Dream Chart, while staying true to Combinoid’s own universe and his early references, also opens to new styles such as the contemporary electronic music scenes from London, Manchester and Bristol. He is also inspired by the French experimental music scene (e.g Loto Retina).

Swinging between trip-hop, idm, glitch or deconstructed club music, Combinoid’s music could satisfy listeners of Boards of Canada, Four Tet, Aya, Autechre, Space Afrika, Burial or Arca.

Involved in a powerful sense of sound design and precise synthesis, Combinoid has also worked on rap/noise production for the band Armaguedon in 2014. With his great beat-making style melting grime and trip-hop, the producer gave the band his punk and flexible touch.
Combinoid also worked with the Might Digital Collective on live shows and videos as a composer and a sound designer.
